Light and Heat Ministries

Who we are as a force

Light and Heat Ministries is a Third Millennium agency for "evangelization" in the U.S.A. Collaborating with all "persons of good will", Heat and Light Ministries addresses its message primarily to catholic (universal) Christians, and promotes "Catholic Action" under the banner: "A Gospel for America: Recovering our American Christian Heritage; Seeking Proper Inculturation of Christianity. Our motto is: "VERITAS AEQUITAS" – which means Truth, Piety, Sanctity, and Justice.

What is Catholic Action?

Catholic Action is the organized work of the laity, faithful to the Magisterium of the Church, performed under the direction or mandate of a bishop, in the fields of dogma, morals, liturgy, education, and charity. In 1927 Pope Pius XI gave the term its classical definition as "the participation of the laity in the apostolate of the hierarchy." During the Second Vatican Council, in the 1960s, the Catholic principle of "apostolic action," on the part of the laity, was further developed and highlighted in several documents, most notably in the Decree on the Apostolate of the Laity, which states: "The laity derive their right and duty with respect to the apostolate from their union with Christ their head."

The principle behind whatever suitable label, e.g., "Catholic Action" or "Apostolic Action," is "God's plan for the world ... that men should work together to restore the temporal sphere of things and to develop it unceasingly." Applying this principle in 2007, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops addressed the grave moral issues of our time and called the laity to fulfillment of Christian political responsibility with their teaching document Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship: A Call to Political Responsibility from the Catholic Bishops of the United States (N.B. an Introductory Note was added in 2011).

Catholic Action is about proclaiming the Truth of God, in season or out, in the market place and in the public square — as well as within the family and the Church. God's Truth, and therefore Catholic Action, is about "theology" and not "political ideology." A valuable resource for understanding the American Catholic political vocation is the pastoral statement Living the Gospel of Life, issued in 1998 by the U.S. Catholic Bishops. Primary resources include The Documents of Vatican Council II and the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church.

Our Mission

The mission of Light and Heat Ministries is to give faithful Catholics, and all like-minded Christians, the information, perspective, encouragement, and support they need to become an active force for renewal in the Church and in society, working to lovingly and courageously proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ and shape an authentically Christian culture in a secular world, by nourishing individual faith and nurturing families as domestic churches and the fundamental building blocks of society, which they are.

How We Accomplish Our Mission

The primary means for accomplishing our mission is the distribution of news, commentary, spiritual resources, and practical suggestions, consistent with right reasoning, and in conformity with the Will of God as revealed in Sacred Scripture — especially as expressed through the Mind of Jesus Christ, Only Son of God —and as taught by the Magisterium (i.e., Teaching Authority) of the Church.

The information provided will help catholic Christians cope with and appropriately respond to a full range of spiritual, moral, political, social, economic, cultural, and ecclesiastical challenges which they must daily contend with in sanctifying all environments, individually and collectively, and in every aspect of their lives: one's own integrity, family, local Church, school, workplace, marketplace, and in the public square — where public policy is formed through the dynamic tension between Christian faith and secular culture.

Who We Are as an Organization

Light and Heat Ministries is an operating department of Evangelization Enterprises, Inc. a non-profit corporation [501(c )(3) tax status was approved October 31, 2013]. The board of directors, trustees, and officers of Evangelization Enterprises, Inc. are primarily Catholic Christian laypersons faithful to the Magisterium, working with clergy advisors and co-workers, seeking to enrich faith, strengthen the family and the Church, and form Christian culture, according to the mind of the Christ, focusing on the regional, national, or international issues that affect catholic Christians and all persons of good will.
